Where it came from
The Forest card, numbered 690, originates from the Secret Lair Drop Series, a specialized initiative by Wizards of the Coast that offers curated, thematic collections of Magic: The Gathering cards. Released as part of limited-run, print-on-demand drops, these cards are designed to showcase unique artistic interpretations that diverge from standard set aesthetic conventions, often featuring stylized, unconventional, or guest-contributed artwork.
This specific iteration of the Forest was created to offer players a distinct visual experience, prioritizing artistic expression over traditional landscape depictions. By commissioning diverse artists for these drops, the series aims to appeal to both long-term collectors and players who appreciate the evolution of the game’s visual identity. The design was received primarily as a premium aesthetic upgrade for deck-building, valued for its exclusivity and the departure from the conventional artistic constraints of the core game expansions.
