Provenance

Where it came from

The 30th Anniversary Edition Forest, card number 296, was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2022 to commemorate three decades of the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This set was designed as a non-tournament-legal celebration, featuring high-quality reproductions of cards from the game's earliest limited editions. The Forest in this set maintains the iconic, nostalgic aesthetic established by the original base sets, serving as a homage to the game's foundational art direction.

The design of this specific card retains the vintage frame and the classic landscape illustration that has defined the Forest card type since the early 1990s. By choosing to reproduce these early artistic interpretations, the developers sought to provide long-term players and collectors with a tangible piece of the game's history. While the set received mixed reviews regarding its availability and tournament legality, it remains a significant touchstone for those interested in the preservation of Magic's visual heritage.
