Plains

The Plains card from the Magic: The Gathering Revised Edition, released in 1994, serves as a foundational basic land within the game's core set. As the third iteration of the base game, Revised was designed to increase print runs and expand the player base following the immense success of the initial Alpha and Beta releases. The design utilizes artwork created for the original Alpha set, maintaining the iconic, minimalist aesthetic intended to provide visual clarity for players amidst the complexity of other card mechanics.

The landscape illustration for this specific printing, created by artist Dameon Willich, evokes the serene, open vistas associated with the game's White mana identity. While these land cards were printed in significant volume to ensure accessibility for new players, they have become distinct historical markers for collectors due to the specific color saturation and card stock quality unique to the Revised printing process. The card is widely recognized today as a quintessential piece of the game's early identity and its transition into a mass-marketed phenomenon.
