The Forest card, numbered 270 in the Battle for Zendikar set released by Wizards of the Coast in 2015, serves as a fundamental basic land within the Magic: The Gathering ecosystem. This set was designed to revisit the plane of Zendikar, a world defined by its adventurous spirit and perilous landscapes, following the return of the Eldrazi titans. The design objective for these lands was to capture the wild, untamed essence of the plane, emphasizing the unique 'floating' geography and vibrant, otherworldly vegetation that define Zendikar's wilderness.

The artwork was commissioned from illustrator Noah Bradley, who was tasked with creating a series of full-art basic lands that would showcase the expansive beauty of the setting. Bradley utilized a lush, ethereal color palette to emphasize the mystical nature of the forest, moving away from traditional terrestrial aesthetics to fit the high-fantasy tone of the set. Upon release, these full-art lands were highly sought after by players and collectors for their aesthetic contribution to deck building and their departure from the standard, bordered layout typically found in basic land cards.
