Forest

The Forest card from the 1993 Collectors' Edition set serves as a foundational element of the early Magic: The Gathering ecosystem. This specific edition was released as a non-randomized, fixed-list box set intended to provide players with a complete collection of the game's earliest cards, effectively acting as a curated reprint of the original Alpha and Beta printings. It was produced to address the scarcity of the core game, allowing players to access essential basic lands and staples that had become increasingly difficult to acquire during the game's initial surge in popularity.

The design of this Forest maintains the aesthetic legacy of the original 1993 prints, featuring artwork by Christopher Rush. Rush, a prolific illustrator for the early game, employed a lush, traditional style that defined the visual language of Magic's basic lands for years. While the Collectors' Edition cards are distinguished from their predecessors by a unique square-corner cut and gold-inked backs, the artwork itself was received as a definitive representation of the game's organic, high-fantasy tone, cementing the Forest as a hallmark of the early tabletop experience.
