Forest

This Forest card was released in 2013 as part of the Duel Decks: Heroes vs. Monsters set, a preconstructed product designed by Wizards of the Coast to facilitate balanced, thematic gameplay out of the box. The set focused on the classic mythological trope of epic clashes, pitting legendary heroes against terrifying beasts. This specific card served as a functional land, providing the green mana necessary to power the 'Monsters' deck, which leaned heavily into the color's affinity for ramp and large creature threats.

The illustration for this card was created by artist Jung Park, who utilized a painterly style to convey the dense, atmospheric gloom of a primal wilderness. Park’s design sought to evoke a sense of ancient, untamed nature, moving away from the more manicured landscapes found in traditional Magic sets. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players for its cohesive integration into the set's aggressive, creature-heavy strategy and for the high aesthetic quality of the landscape art, which contributed to the overall immersive theme of the Duel Decks series.
