Forest

The Forest card, designated as collector number 347 in the Ninth Edition core set of Magic: The Gathering, was released in 2005. As a core set, Ninth Edition served as a bridge for players, featuring reprints of cards from throughout the game's history to ensure essential game pieces remained accessible. This specific iteration of the basic Forest land is notable for the inclusion of the star symbol suffix in its collector number, which identifies it as one of the specific art variants included in the set's expanded selection of basic lands.

The design of the Ninth Edition basic lands was part of a broader aesthetic effort by Wizards of the Coast to standardize the visual identity of the game's fundamental resources. These illustrations were commissioned to capture the quintessential essence of the Magic multiverse's biomes, favoring clear, evocative imagery that communicated the card's function as a mana source at a glance. Upon release, the set was received as a functional necessity, appreciated by players for its clean, modern frame design which had been introduced in the Eighth Edition and refined here to improve readability and consistency across the growing card pool.
