Forest

The Forest card from the Limited Edition Beta set was released by Wizards of the Coast in 1993 as part of the second print run of the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Serving as a fixed, non-randomized basic land, these cards were essential for players to construct decks, providing the mana required to cast spells. Beta is historically significant for refining the initial print errors of the Alpha set and establishing the rounded corner standard that defines modern trading cards.

The art for this specific Forest was illustrated by Christopher Rush, one of the foundational artists for the game's early years. His design style prioritized a distinct, painterly aesthetic that defined the fantasy look of early Magic, using a deep, textured green palette to evoke a sense of ancient woodland. The design was received as a cornerstone of the game's visual identity, and because these cards were included in every starter deck and booster pack of the era, they remain iconic touchstones for collectors who value the original aesthetics of the mid-1990s gaming culture.
