Where it came from
The 1997 World Championship Decks were released by Wizards of the Coast to commemorate the top-performing decks from the 1997 Magic: The Gathering World Championship. These products were unique for their gold-bordered cards, which featured the player's signature on the face and a distinct back design, clearly distinguishing them from standard tournament-legal cards. They served as a way for fans to experience the exact deck compositions that dominated the competitive landscape at the time.
This Forest card, bearing the collector number sg447, was included as part of the deck piloted by Svend Sparre Geertsen during the tournament. The art reflects the standard aesthetic of the period, adhering to the classic high-fantasy style established during the game's early years. By providing a snapshot of competitive play from that era, the deck and its individual cards have since become a point of interest for collectors focusing on the history of professional Magic: The Gathering play.
