Where it came from
Released in October 2019 as part of the Throne of Eldraine expansion, this Island card represents the set's unique take on the Magic: The Gathering multiverse. Inspired by European folklore, Arthurian legend, and the whimsical aesthetic of Grimm's fairy tales, the set introduced a distinct visual language characterized by saturated colors and high fantasy motifs. This particular land card was designed to immerse players in the lush, magical wilderness of the Eldraine plane, serving as a foundational element for decks built around the set's iconic mechanics.
The artwork for this card was created by artist Adam Paquette, who contributed significantly to the visual identity of the Throne of Eldraine land cycle. Paquette focused on atmospheric depth and the interplay of light within a dense, enchanted forest environment, aiming to capture the mysterious and slightly perilous nature of the setting. Upon its release, the card was widely praised within the community for its detailed painterly style, which helped establish the set's reputation as one of the more aesthetically cohesive and evocative collections in the game's recent history.
