Where it came from
The Island card from the Double Masters set, numbered 375, is part of a curated selection of full-art basic lands released in August 2020. Double Masters was designed as a premium, high-value reprint set intended to celebrate the history of Magic: The Gathering by featuring two rare or mythic cards in every pack. The aesthetic direction for this specific Island leans into a minimalist, stylized approach, focusing on bold colors and graphic shapes that distinguish it from standard-set lands.
The artwork for this card follows the broader design philosophy of the set's non-foil full-art basics, which were created to provide players with a sleek, modern visual alternative for their decks. By removing the traditional text box frame, the illustrators emphasized the atmospheric, ethereal depiction of the island landscape. Upon its release, the card was well-received by the player base, particularly among those who value cohesive, aesthetically striking land cycles for competitive and casual play.
