Island

The Island card from the Jumpstart 2022 set, numbered 101, is part of a unique cycle of basic lands designed to match the specific thematic 'packets' that define the Jumpstart play experience. Released by Wizards of the Coast, this set was engineered to provide an accessible and repeatable draft-like format where players combine two distinct themed decks to create a cohesive whole. The aesthetic direction for these basic lands was crafted to lean into high-fantasy, evocative landscapes that reflect the magical nature of the plane they represent, emphasizing vibrant colors and atmospheric lighting.

The illustration for this specific Island was created by artist Jung Park. Known for his work in the fantasy and concept art space, Park sought to capture a serene yet mysterious coastal vista that would anchor the blue-aligned packets in the set. Within the Magic: The Gathering community, the Jumpstart 2022 basic lands were generally well-received for their artistic quality, as they provided a fresh, clean visual identity that distinguished the release from the standard core sets of the era, serving as a functional yet collectible staple for players.
