Where it came from
This Island card was released as part of The Brothers' War Commander set in 2022. It serves as a standard basic land, designed to function within the thematic context of the Brothers' War, a pivotal conflict in the Magic: The Gathering multiverse between the brothers Urza and Mishra. The set was crafted to evoke the aesthetic of early Magic history while celebrating the technological warfare that defined this particular lore era.
The artwork for this specific card was commissioned by Wizards of the Coast to maintain the visual continuity of the expansion. Illustrators for the set were tasked with depicting environments that felt ravaged by mechanical artifice and the long-standing war between the two factions. Upon release, this card was well-received by players for its atmospheric, somber landscape, which captures the desolate and industrial tone central to the Brothers' War narrative.
