Island

The Island card from the 2022 Starter Commander Decks was released as part of Wizards of the Coast's initiative to provide accessible, ready-to-play entry points for the Commander format. These decks were designed to bridge the gap for new players, featuring simplified deck lists that still captured the essence of the social, multiplayer gameplay that defines the format. This specific land card represents the foundational aesthetics of the set, utilizing a standardized layout intended for quick readability during fast-paced games.

The art and design philosophy for these starter decks focused on clarity and thematic cohesion, ensuring that players could easily distinguish basic land types while navigating the board. By opting for a clean, functional aesthetic, the design team aimed to reduce cognitive load for beginners learning the complexities of stack interactions and land-based mana production. While it shares the mechanical identity of its predecessors, this version is distinct to the Starter Commander line, serving as a reliable utility piece within the preconstructed ecosystem.
