Provenance

Where it came from

This Island card was released in 2022 as part of The Brothers' War, an expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. The set chronicles the pivotal conflict between brothers Urza and Mishra, a foundational lore event that shaped the game's multiverse. As a basic land, this card serves as a fundamental resource for players, though it is distinguished by the specific art direction and aesthetic established for this release.

The illustration was created by artist Jonas De Ro, who utilized a cinematic, high-fantasy style to capture the desolate, industrial tone of the war-torn landscape. De Ro’s work on this set aimed to emphasize the mechanical devastation and sprawling environmental ruin characteristic of the Brother's War era. The piece was well-regarded by the community for its evocative depiction of a fractured, steam-filled horizon, aligning with the set's broader theme of technological hubris.
