Provenance

Where it came from

The Island card from the Outlaws of Thunder Junction set, specifically collector number 273, was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2024 as part of a high-fantasy Western-themed expansion. This set marked a significant stylistic departure for the long-running Magic: The Gathering franchise, integrating traditional desert and frontier aesthetics with the game's expansive multiverse narrative.

The art featured on this card is part of the set’s specialized basic land cycle, which was designed to evoke the rugged, wide-open vistas of the plane of Thunder Junction. The illustration emphasizes the atmospheric, sun-drenched palette typical of the set's art direction, prioritizing a sense of isolation and geological scale that aligns with the visual identity of the desert landscape.
