Provenance

Where it came from

This Island card was released in 2019 as part of the Throne of Eldraine set for Magic: The Gathering. The set was designed to evoke a high-fantasy aesthetic inspired by European folklore and fairy tales, moving away from the grimdark themes of the preceding sets. This particular basic land, marked with collector number 256, features a landscape that captures the mystical and somewhat eerie atmosphere characteristic of the Eldraine plane.

The art for this card was created by Jonas De Ro, a digital artist known for his atmospheric and immersive environment work. De Ro was commissioned to provide a vision of Eldraine that felt both magical and grounded in the story's folkloric roots. Upon its release, the basic land cycle in Throne of Eldraine was well-received by players for its cohesive art direction, which successfully distinguished the plane's unique geography from the more generic settings often seen in other sets.
