Provenance

Where it came from

The Island card from the Outlaws of Thunder Junction set, specifically collector number 279, was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2024. This set marked a significant departure for the Magic: The Gathering multiverse, shifting toward a 'frontier fantasy' aesthetic inspired by classic Western films and lawless frontier lore, integrated into the existing high-fantasy framework of the game.

The art featured on this land card reflects the set's distinct visual identity, focusing on the rugged, desolate, and expansive landscapes that define the plane of Thunder Junction. Designed as part of the set's basic land cycle, the illustration emphasizes the harsh beauty of this new locale, aiming to evoke a sense of isolation and untamed wilderness that aligns with the set's central thematic pillars of outlaws and opportunistic expansion.
