Where it came from
The Island card numbered 312 from the Modern Horizons 3 set was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2024 as part of a specialized expansion designed for the Modern format. This particular card features full-art aesthetic styling, a design choice intended to emphasize the evocative, sweeping landscapes that define the Magic: The Gathering multiverse. It was created to provide players with a visually distinct version of the game's fundamental resources, moving away from traditional frame borders to allow the artwork to occupy the entirety of the card face.
The illustration was crafted to evoke the atmospheric and ethereal tone characteristic of the set's high-fantasy themes. By utilizing a minimalist layout that removes extraneous text, the design prioritizes the player's immersive experience during gameplay. Upon its release, these full-art basic lands were widely noted by the community for their high-fidelity printing and their contribution to the cohesive, cinematic visual identity established throughout the Modern Horizons 3 cycle.
