Where it came from
The M20 Island, numbered 2 in the set of basic lands found in Core Set 2020 Promo Packs, was released in 2019 as part of Wizards of the Coast's initiative to revitalize local game store rewards. These promotional packs were designed to incentivize play in Friday Night Magic and other organized events, offering players a way to acquire fixed-rotation cards that featured a distinct expansion symbol and a premium foil finish not found in standard booster packs.
The artwork for this specific Island was illustrated by Titus Lunter. Known for his evocative landscape work within the Magic: The Gathering universe, Lunter focused on creating a serene yet expansive vista that emphasizes the elemental nature of the color blue. The design received positive feedback from players for its atmospheric lighting and clean composition, serving as a standout example of the high-quality land art that characterizes the contemporary era of the game.
