Where it came from
The Island card from the Invasion set was released in 2000 as part of the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. It was designed to reflect the aesthetic of the Invasion expansion, which depicted a massive, plane-wide conflict between the forces of the coalition and the invading Phyrexians. The set was noted for its emphasis on multi-colored themes, and this basic land card served as a foundational element for players constructing decks during this period of the game's history.
The artwork for this specific Island was created by the artist John Avon, who is widely recognized for his landscape illustrations within the Magic: The Gathering universe. Avon utilized his characteristic focus on light and atmospheric depth to capture a tranquil yet expansive vista. This iteration of the Island has been well-regarded by the player community for its composition and continues to be sought after by collectors who appreciate the distinct visual style of the early 2000s era of the game.
