Where it came from
The Island card from the Magic 2015 (M15) core set was released in July 2014, marking a transitional period for the Magic: The Gathering base sets. This card was part of a cycle of basic lands designed to provide a cohesive visual identity for the set's standard environment, emphasizing the game's core mana systems while fitting the overarching aesthetic themes of the M15 expansion.
The artwork for this specific Island was created by the artist Jung Park. Park, known for his atmospheric and sometimes ethereal digital landscapes, sought to convey the tranquility and vastness of the plane's water-based terrain. The piece was well-received by the player community for its clean composition and distinct departure from the more chaotic landscape designs seen in other contemporary sets, helping to solidify its place as a reliable staple for deck building during the 2014-2015 tournament season.
