Provenance

Where it came from

The Island card from the Magic 2011 core set, designated as card number 237, serves as a fundamental resource card within the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Released in July 2010, this set was designed to introduce new players to the game while providing a stable foundation for established formats, featuring a mix of reprints and new cards that emphasized core mechanics and accessible gameplay strategies.

The artwork for this specific Island was created by the illustrator Aleksi Briclot. Known for his atmospheric and immersive digital painting style, Briclot focused on capturing the serene yet vast nature of a watery landscape, utilizing a color palette that aligns with the blue mana identity of the game. Upon its release, the card was widely distributed in booster packs and deck builder toolkits, becoming a common fixture in the collections of players active during the M11 era.
