Where it came from
Released in 1998 as part of the Unglued expansion, this basic Island card represents a departure from traditional Magic: The Gathering aesthetics. It was designed as a novelty set intended for casual play, marking the first time the game explored self-referential humor and unconventional visual layouts within its official product lines.
The card features artwork by Christopher Rush, one of the game's most iconic early illustrators. In alignment with the set's satirical nature, the design discards the standard text box and rigid border conventions of the era, opting for a full-bleed, stylized approach that prioritized artistic expression over the traditional functional constraints of card design.
