Where it came from
The Island card from the Battle for Zendikar set, specifically collector number 255, was released by Wizards of the Coast in October 2015. This card is part of a series of full-art basic lands designed to emphasize the plane of Zendikar, a world defined by its volatile landscapes and shifting terrain. The set marked a return to a fan-favorite setting, and the full-art treatment was a deliberate aesthetic choice meant to immerse players in the unique, gravity-defying environments of the world.
The artwork for this specific Island was created by Adam Paquette, a frequent contributor to Magic: The Gathering whose style often focuses on atmospheric lighting and majestic, sweeping vistas. His design for this piece captures the serene yet alien nature of Zendikar, utilizing the full-art frame to allow the landscape to dominate the visual space. It was well-received by the player community, who generally praise the integration of the card frame with the expansive illustration, making it a staple for players looking to customize the visual appeal of their decks.
