Island

The 2018b Island card is a promotional basic land released as part of the Magic: The Gathering Grand Prix circuit in 2018. These cards were distributed as participation incentives to players attending Grand Prix events, serving as a tangible memento of the competitive gathering. As part of a cycle of basic lands featuring distinct regional aesthetics, this version reflects the game's ongoing commitment to providing players with unique aesthetic variants that distinguish high-level tournament play from standard product releases.

The illustration is credited to Noah Bradley, a prominent artist whose work became synonymous with the aesthetic of the era's land cards. Bradley's approach focused on sweeping, painterly landscapes that emphasized scale and atmospheric light, aiming to evoke a sense of wonder consistent with the planes-hopping nature of the game. The card was well-received by the player base for its departure from the standard set aesthetics, and it has since become a sought-after piece for collectors who value cohesive, thematic landscapes within their decks.
