Island

The Island card from the 2000 World Championship Decks was issued as part of a specialized boxed set designed to replicate the exact card lists used by top-placing professional players during the 2000 Magic: The Gathering World Championship. These decks were produced by Wizards of the Coast to allow casual players to experience tournament-level strategies and deck composition. Because the cards were intended for demonstration rather than standard tournament play, they feature distinct gold-bordered backs and facsimile signatures of the professional players on the front, distinguishing them from the standard-issue cards found in booster packs.

The aesthetic of this specific Island draws from the core visual identity established for the Masques block, which leaned into a high-fantasy, painterly style that diverged from the more clinical art direction of earlier years. While the original illustration credits belong to the contributing artists of that cycle, the inclusion in the 2000 World Championship series focused on functional utility and the preservation of competitive history. It remains a notable archival piece for collectors interested in the evolution of professional tournament play and the transition of the game into a major global competitive circuit.
