Island

The Island card from the Duel Decks: Speed vs. Cunning set was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2014. These themed decks were designed to showcase the contrast between aggressive, fast-paced playstyles and more reactive, tactical strategies. As part of a preconstructed product, this card was included to provide players with a functional, curated experience right out of the box, reflecting the specific aesthetic and mechanical themes of the Izzet League and other allied color pairings often associated with the Duel Decks series.

The visual design of this card adheres to the high production standards of modern Magic: The Gathering. While the basic land slot in Duel Decks often features art repurposed from recent sets to maintain stylistic cohesion with the set's identity, the illustrations are commissioned by Wizards of the Coast's internal art direction team. These pieces are intended to evoke the atmospheric landscape of the Magic multiverse, providing a consistent and immersive backdrop for the game's competitive environment. The artwork was well-received by the player base for its clarity and thematic alignment with the dual-themed nature of the product.
