Provenance

Where it came from

This version of the Island was released in 2014 as part of the Duel Decks: Jace vs. Vraska product. These decks were designed to feature a pre-constructed face-off between two prominent planeswalkers, with the land cards selected to visually reflect the contrasting aesthetics of the two characters. The inclusion of basic lands in these thematic sets serves to ground the decks in the lore of the Magic: The Gathering multiverse while providing necessary gameplay resources.

The artwork for this specific Island was created by Cliff Childs. The design leans into the thematic duality of the set, utilizing a color palette and atmospheric composition intended to complement the blue-aligned identity of Jace Beleren. Upon release, the card was well-received by players for its artistic cohesion with the rest of the deck, serving as a functional piece of the product's broader narrative presentation.
