Provenance

Where it came from

The Island card from the Magic 2012 core set, identified as collector number 237, serves as a fundamental land card within the long-running collectible card game Magic: The Gathering. Released in 2011, this core set was designed to balance accessibility for new players with the strategic depth expected by veterans, continuing the tradition of providing essential basic lands that define the color identity of a player's deck.

The artwork for this specific iteration was created by the fantasy illustrator Jung Park. Park's design emphasizes a serene, ethereal aesthetic, utilizing light and shadow to evoke the tranquil yet mysterious nature of a magical island. Upon its release, the card was widely distributed in booster packs and intro decks, becoming a staple in the collections of players who favored the blue mana focus of the M12 era.
