Island

The Island card from the Magic 2013 (M13) core set was released in July 2012 as part of a foundational collection for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Core sets are designed to be accessible entry points for new players, featuring a blend of reprinted mechanics and essential basic lands that define the game’s core strategic pillars. This specific card serves as the fundamental resource for blue mana, reflecting the set's broader goal of reinforcing the game's identity while providing a clean, recognizable aesthetic for the year's competitive play.

The artwork for this particular Island was created by the artist Jung Park. In line with the design philosophy of the era, the illustration emphasizes a serene, expansive coastal landscape that captures the atmospheric essence of blue-aligned magic. Park’s work on M13 is noted for its focus on light and geological structure, which helped solidify a cohesive visual identity for the set. Upon its release, the card was widely distributed in booster packs and deck builders, receiving praise for its clarity and the high-quality digital painting techniques characteristic of modern Magic: The Gathering card design.
