Provenance

Where it came from

The 2002 World Championship Decks were released by Wizards of the Coast to commemorate the top-performing decks from that year's Magic: The Gathering World Championship held in Sydney, Australia. Unlike standard booster pack cards, these were printed with gold-bordered backs and silver-foil signatures of the players on the front, explicitly designed as non-tournament-legal keepsakes meant for casual play and historical reflection.

The Island card from this series features the signature aesthetic of the era, utilizing artwork that reflects the thematic immersion of the Odyssey block. These cards were curated to allow fans to replicate the specific strategies and deck lists used by professional players during the championship, effectively turning a competitive gameplay moment into a permanent artifact for collectors.
