Island

The Island card from the Magic: The Gathering Seventh Edition set, released in 2001, serves as a cornerstone of the game's core sets. It was designed to provide a foundational land card for players, serving as a primary resource for generating blue mana. This specific version features artwork by John Avon, an illustrator widely celebrated in the community for his ability to capture natural landscapes with a distinct sense of tranquility and light, a style that became a hallmark of the game's aesthetic during this era.

The Seventh Edition marked a notable point in Magic's history, as it was the first base set to introduce a modernized, more accessible frame design intended to improve card readability. Avon's contribution to the set was part of an effort to provide players with highly evocative, premium-quality artistic landscapes that contrasted with the more utilitarian or abstract designs found in earlier iterations. The piece was well-received by collectors and players alike, cementing its place as a quintessential example of early 2000s fantasy landscape illustration.
