Island

The 2001 World Championship Decks were released by Wizards of the Coast to allow players to experience the high-level tournament play that defined the competitive Magic: The Gathering landscape. This specific printing of the Island, identified as collector number ar338, originates from the 'Rising Star' deck, a replica of the deck piloted by Tomi Walamies during the 2001 World Championship. These decks were unique in their construction, featuring gold-bordered backs and signatures on the card faces, making them ineligible for standard tournament play but highly sought after as historical artifacts of the professional circuit.

The design of this card adheres to the aesthetic standards of the Seventh Edition core set, which provided the artistic foundation for the cards utilized in the 2001 decks. The illustration captures the serene, elemental nature of the basic land, consistent with the thematic visual language Magic players had come to recognize by the turn of the millennium. By incorporating these cards into commemorative boxed sets, the company aimed to preserve the specific technical configurations favored by top-tier players, offering fans a tangible connection to the strategies that dominated the 2001 season.
