Where it came from
This Island card originates from the Dragons of Tarkir expansion, released in March 2015 as the third set in the Khans of Tarkir block. The block centered on a time-travel narrative where the plane of Tarkir was reshaped by the intervention of the dragon planeswalker Sarkhan Vol, shifting the world from a war-torn landscape into a dragon-dominated hegemony.
The artwork for this specific card was illustrated by Titus Lunter. As part of the set's basic land cycle, the design focuses on the aesthetic transition of Tarkir’s geography under the rule of the Silumgar clan. The imagery emphasizes a swampy, corrupted, and brooding environment characteristic of the clan's influence, intended to immerse players in the dark, atmospheric world-building that defined the set's creative direction.
