Provenance

Where it came from

Released in March 2015 as part of the Dragons of Tarkir expansion for Magic: The Gathering, this card depicts one of the five basic land types found in the set. The set itself centers on a time-travel narrative where the timeline is altered to favor the rule of dragon lords, creating a war-torn, high-fantasy atmosphere that permeates the visual language of the entire collection.

The art for this specific Island was created by Titus Lunter, a frequent contributor to the game's aesthetic during this era. Lunter’s design emphasizes the unique geography of Tarkir, focusing on dramatic, sweeping landscapes that align with the set's dragon-centric theme. It was well received by the player community for its immersive world-building and painterly approach to traditional card environments.
